How Does it Work?

Basic explanation

The packaging product contains VpCI either inside, or coated on the surface

VpCI vaporizes/sublimates in to the air inside the package

The VpCI diffuses and spreads to all areas of the enclosure

Based on the VpCI chemistry, the corrosion inhibitor adsorbs on to the metal surfaces

The VpCI molecule attached to the metal surface forms a very thin film that protects from corrosion

When the packaging is removed, the VpCI molecules leave the metal surfaces, clean and corrosion free


Types of VpCI Packaging

Paper: corrosion inhibitor coating applied to one or both sides of a paper sheet or roll

- Cost effective and proven method, VpCI-146

Film: polyethylene film that is extruded with corrosion inhibitor blended in with the resin

- Easy to form a good seal to keep water out, VpCI-126

Foam: open cell polyurethane foam impregnated with corrosion inhibitor liquid

- Quickly emits large quantity of inhibitor, VpCI-130 series / BioPad

Emitters: many shapes, sizes, styles intended to emit    corrosion inhibitors inside an enclosure

- VpCI-105/111, Cor-Pak 1-MUL, EcoPouch, etc

VpCI-146 paper to wrap parts, small to medium size parts.

VpCI-126 bags to place parts inside, small to medium size parts.

VpCI-146 paper to wrap parts, placed in secondary packaging.

VpCI-126 bags to place parts inside. Include emitters or VpCI-130 series for longer storage / more severe shipping conditions.

VpCI-126 film or VpCI-126 Shrink to wrap large parts or shrink wrap. Add emitter for extended corrosion protection.

Harsh Overseas Shipments / Outdoor storage

VpCI-126 HP UV for up to 1 year outdoor protection. Include emitters such as VpCI-130 foam inside the package for larger parts.

MilCorr for greater than 1 year outdoor protection; include emitters as well.

CorrShield VpCI®-126 Color of Blue is contemporary and environmentally safe replacement for hazardous conventional rust preventatives such as oils and desiccants. By using CorrShield VpCI®-126 Color of Blue the customer gains safe and economical solution considering that the film also eliminates all the degreasing or coating removal required in the past. The product can be used immediately, it does not contain free amines, phosphates or halogen-based materials and is non-toxic.

Metal parts packaged in CorrShield VpCI®-126 Color of Blue  receive continuous protection against salt, excessive humidity, condensation, moisture, aggressive industrial atmospheres and dissimilar metal corrosion. The VpCI's vaporize and condense to metal surfaces in the enclosed package, reaching every area of the part, even hard-to-reach interior surfaces. This allows complete product protection during storage as well as during domestic and overseas shipment.

The product conforms to NACE Standard RP0487-2000 Item #21037, MIL-PRF - 22019D, according to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, QPL 13600 Ser 43500B120- 3/531. In addition, VpCI-126 is referenced in TO 1-1-686, TM 55-1500-331-34, NAVAIR 15-01-4 and is RoHS compliant. The product is described in patents US 5855975, EP 0653454, and AU 675317.
